Are Your Eating Utensils Toxic?

  • by

I read on a message board not to use any metal utensils.  I was so desperate to get well from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity that I decided that it was doable. I realized that I had cheap “stainless” metal utensils and that I would use them for stirring soups and eating hot foods.  Now and again I use a metal utensil, but I don’t leave it sitting in my food.

Most utensils come from China.  So right there you can assume it could contain absolutely anything.  They can contain lead, aluminum, nickel, chrome, and other toxic metals.  Heavy metals are a main source for toxicity, MCS, reduced digestive function and so many illnesses.

I now use sterling silver and silver plated eating utensils.  Silver is actually good for your health. (Check out colloidal silver health benefits).  Make sure that the silver is not worn down because there can be chrome or other toxic metals underneath.

I would imagine that quality stainless steel is a good choice as well, although you never know.  Actually you never know with anything anymore, so you have to guess your best. Bamboo is great, just try to make sure they have not put a “coating” on it.  One person who started using bamboo noticed an immediate difference in the taste of her food.  You can buy bamboo utensils online or at many Whole Foods or health food stores.

Plastic utensils are no good either, they contain a variety of toxins that you don’t want in your mouth, not to mention the “plastic island” of plastic pollution, which is the size of the US and located in the Pacific Ocean.

I threw away all plastic cooking spoons, spatulas etc.  I have stainless steel.  I haven’t bought the wood utensils because I am leary of what they might treat the wood with.  Most wood these days is treated with chemicals.

Detoxing your body is requires finding all of the toxic products in your life and getting rid of all of them that you possibly can. Unfortunately, just about everything is toxic!  I really do think that every little thing that you can eliminate will help.  I used to think I was possibly just neurotic, but then I got 98% better from my MCS.  It took quite a while, but it worked.

Are Your Eating Utensils Toxic? Probably!
