Healing your Body with Food! Tips on transitioning your diet

  • by

Nutrition is central to healing, your body’s ability to detox and your well being!

The American Food Supply is very unhealthy, and there is a vast difference in the quality of available foods. generally, cheaper foods are mass produced in the cheapest possible way with no regard whatsoever for your health and well being. To easily see how food effects you, go to Whole Foods,  Safeway and Wallmart and you can see the difference in the health, weight, skin tone, vibrancy and mood of the people. Its not the money of the people, its the difference in the food eaten that makes a difference. Also, there are not so many toxins in the store making everyone depressed, tired or irritable.

Its expensive to eat healthy food, but its worth it. I allow more and more of my budget to food.  The healthier the food the more delicious and I have become a real food lover in the process. Its my luxury. Its the cheap industrial ingredients and processes that are hurting out health. If you have little money, organic rice beans and bananas are still cheap!

My personal food philosophy is eat everything! Just make sure its organic, non GMO grass fed, minimal plastic packaging.  I have read books about all of the diets: Alkalizing, Raw, Vegan, Low Glycemic   etc. I was never sufficiently motivated to keep going, the raw food diet didn’t make me feel good at all. But I have used the information and added more veggies cut back on carbs and added alkalizing foods like lemon juice to what I eat. {I gave up wheat since the first draft of this post}.

I usually cook my own food on stainless steel or glass cook-wear, I will eat a Whopper if I really want it. However, it has been at least a year since I last wanted one. For me, following a strict diet just back-fires and makes you feel like a failure or can turn into a neurosis.  All food has value of some kind. When you are allowed to eat whatever you want you are freed up and generally end up eating the healthy thing! I really think that (unless you are addicted) your body generally knows what is good for it. I was vegetarian for 10 years. I felt better and had more energy after going back to  meat. At different times, I have given up dairy, breads, honey and natural sweets; tried to do the raw diet, low fat etc. Diet is personal, but I eat all foods.  Part of healing and being healthy is LIVING, being a part of a group and not worrying about every little thing. I eat really well, but I try not to feel myself restricted.    Its a balance everyone has to find.

I gave up wheat 3 months ago and I feel great and lost some weight. http://detoxthebodymcs.com/wheat-belly-lose-the-wheat-lose-the-weight-gluten-free-craze/ I eat some wheat every couple of weeks and now it gives me a stomach ache. Many people have reported great gains in health and energy (and weight loss) from not eating grains or heavy starches. I have cut down as much as I can, but am not ready for it yet.

The important thing is to eat nontoxic food! When I was sick with MCS I ate plenty of uncured farm bacon and beef and chicken homemade soups. This was very healing for me. I don’t know why, I just know that my body wanted it and was happy eating it.  Not everybody tolerates lots of raw vegetables.  I eat a diet very full of super-foods, dense in nutrition. Eat what you feel you want to eat, just get the most healthy version of it possible. Experiment and see how you feel.

If you eat a typical American diet there is a lot to change. Go at your own pace and find ways to change that work for you…Never feel bad for messing up,  just try again next time.

Phase 1:  Cut out corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, ‘conventional’ dairy and meat which is full of hormones and antibiotics and other toxic chemicals. Add broccoli, spinach, kale and other powerful veggies to your diet, if you need to cook them until well done and slather all over them, at this point, go for it.

Just doing this is a major boost to your health. Even replacing corn sweetener to white sugar is a great improvement.  Soon you will loose your taste for sweets with corn syrup. It tastes nasty after your taste buds recover.

Watch these Must See Movies:

Supersize Me,    King Corn,     Food Inc,     The Future of Food.                                                 You can see them on Netflix, some one Hulu and at http://astore.amazon.com/multi0d8-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=14

Phase 2: Cut out processed food with ingredients you don’t recognize. Get rid of the Microwave which depletes nutrients out of foods and changes its molecular structure. Stop eating at chain restaurants (even Panera Bread), they all use cheap unhealthy ingredients. I once looked up Subway ingredients and the Bread, the meat and the cheese contains High Fructose Corn Syrup. There are some new grass fed and organics in some chains now. Get rid of Teflon and aluminum cook-wear. Cut way down on  sugar.

Oh, and quit the Diet Coke, it’s poison! Switch to water with a little fruit juice {my fav is pomegranate} or drink some Zevia (stevia diet soda). I don’t drink a lot of it because of the plastic, metals and BPA in the can.

Phase 3 everything else!   Add more and more organic vegetables, fruits, quinoa, basmati rice, super-foods and unprocessed foods not packaged in plastic.  Some good quality  super-foods http://astore.amazon.com/multi0d8-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=2

Its a lot of work and expense to find healthy food to eat. It takes a lot of effort and expense but your health,  beauty, mood, energy level and sex life (men!) are worth it!

Food does not have the same vitamins and minerals as it once did because the soil is depleted or contaminated. Meats and dairy don’t have the Vitamin D, Vitamin K , Essential Fatty Acids and other enzymes they once did, because the animals never see the sun and don’t eat a diet appropriate for them. ‘Certified Organic’ isn’t enough anymore. Grass Fed meat and dairy is more desirable than organic corn fed factory farm products.

Even “cage free”  or “Free Roaming” can be birds that see the sun for 5 minutes in their lifetime. Investigate your meat and dairy source and make. I investigate lots of foods that I eat.

Shop at farmers markets, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Health Food Co-ops and stores. You can order organic foods online are the places I shop. Costco and other large stores have been found selling fraudulent organic, grass fed or free range items(as all other stores, but more). But if that’s your budget, its probably fine.  I try to get American Certified Organic, Lots of foods are from China or Mexico and aren’t really enforced.

I don’t eat Genetically Modified Food, so much food is GMO today, Its work to avoid it. 99% of all corn and soy in the USA which isn’t 100% USDA Certified Organic is GMO. The main reason it is modified is so that they can spray tons Round Up, a poisonous pesticide, that will kill every living thing except the corn. Also,  in the genetic modification process bacteria is used to introduce the new gene into the plant. Like Japan who has said they will wait 15 years to see what happens to the Americans, I will wait.

In Europe, growth hormones and Antibiotics for meat and dairy animal were  banned.. I eat European cheese and butter because they usually still farm the old fashioned way.

Food Democracy Now, http://fooddemocracynow.org/ is a great newsletter that also gives you the chance to click on petitions to ban new GMO crops which are being approved all the time.

There are farms where you can order food and they will deliver and a few new companies that focus on local and organic foods. Amish are organic and free range. The natural food tastes so delicious that soon you will not dream of getting food from the regular Grocery Store.

I try not to eat food that come in plastic. Is toxic. Even spaghetti or foods that don’t touch the plastic have plastic residues in them.

Things that degrade food quality:

Eat your foods as close to natural as you can. Nonfat and other processes degrade the food.

Change Your Oil

The most healthy oil is Coconut oil. I only eat Coconut and Olive and olive I use raw. It changes form as it heats up and isn’t good for you then, Make your pasta and add the oil raw to it, That way you get the flavor and nutrition. Coconut and palm oil are the only oils that dont change into transfats or bad oils when you heat them.

All canola and soybeans which are not organic are genetically modified.

Your ToFu burgers at Whole Foods are full of pesticides. Sorry 🙁

Eat your greens!

Eat superfoods

There is Toxic BPA in cans, All cans. This messes with your hormones and causes cancer. I avoid all plastic packaging.

all Soda is toxic, but diet soda is poisonous

MSG

is toxic and hides in many labels as “spices”. flavorings, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, mono-sodium glutamate.

They Rate eggs http://www.cornucopia.org/organic-egg-scorecard/ see if your brand is any good! and also have other great food information http://www.cornucopia.org They rate all of the organic and “health food” brands.

Organic food delivery is a great option.
