Can Underlying Illness Contribute to Multiple Chemical Sensitivity?

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), also known as Environmental Illness (EI), is a condition that affects individuals who experience adverse reactions to various chemical and environmental triggers. While the causes of MCS are complex and multifaceted, this blog post aims to explore the potential connection between underlying illnesses and the development or exacerbation of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity.

I used to be more involved in helping people with multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS). One day, somebody commented on my Facebook page that because she had spent so much time detoxing and trying to resolve her chemical sensitivity she had completely missed that there was an underlying thyroid condition. When she addressed the underlying thyroid condition she began to recover very quickly.

Throughout my interactions with the MCS community, including those who have shared their stories on my Facebook page, it became apparent that while some individuals recovered from MCS without uncovering any other physical health problems, others identified additional factors contributing to their condition. For instance,  past trauma, such as PTSD, hormone imbalance, limes disease, or mast cell activation. I have heard it all from people who thought it was from magnets to witchcraft. When we get sick like this, we try to find out what happened especially if you’re not aware of a specific chemical exposure.

From my personal experience, I’m aware of two cancer patients who developed Chemical sensitivity. One underwent chemo and radiation, while the other pursued natural treatments. I believe the weakened state of their bodies may be a factor. I interpret chemical sensitivity as the body’s warning against further toxin intake. It’s a call to detox and live a clean, anti-inflammatory, healthy lifestyle. It feels like a defensive mechanism, protecting you from potentially harmful substances that could exacerbate your illness. It’s unnecessary and counterproductive for anyone with a physical condition to deal with excessive toxins. To heal, the body should focus its resources, not waste energy on detoxifying daily toxins

The Importance of Comprehensive Exploration: The experiences shared by individuals with MCS emphasize the importance of considering all possible causes and underlying conditions when dealing with complex illnesses. While addressing environmental triggers, detoxification, and lifestyle modifications are essential components of MCS management, it is crucial to remain open to exploring other potential factors contributing to the illness. And please keep asking your doctors for any kind of test you can think of it’s OK to bug them because you need to get well.

Insist that your doctor give you a test for H. pylori because this is a very common bacteria that 50% of the world’s population has and they never check for it and then I did states. My doctor said she didn’t think I had it but she would check anyway and I did have it and I was having very serious issues with my gut. This condition got pretty bad a few years after I had already recovered from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. However, I previously did have pain in that same area my abdomen years before.

Personally, I did everything I could to heal. That was detoxing, avoiding chemicals, saunas, enemas, yoga, meditation, grounding & more! I still don’t know what triggered that illness. I did have a lot of very serious trauma that year which I think was definitely a factor and seems to be a factor in many cases.
