Finding exercise that you enjoy is the only way to get fit!
Getting healthy, exercising, having a great diet and meditation is very easy. There are hundreds of good books and programs that can tell you what to do. HOWEVER, as human beings we don’t do what we ‘should’ and can’t stick to programs that have promised us lean bodies or spiritual awakening.
As a person who has been both sick, overweight and generally lazy it took me some time to figure out methods of exercise that work for me. Finding out how to motivate your particular self is the key. You really need to find what motivates you.
Also important is to have your body and mind as a top priority. Its really the most important things that you have. If you have ever lost your health, you know this. Spend the money on a teacher you like! Spend the time for yourself. You will never regret this. You are worth the investment.
Keep searching until you find the
*right environment that calls you to go *that you have time for
*teacher that suits you *find friends to exercise with
*level of difficulty * level of stimulation (I like dance, because I am learning something~you may relax with something really easy)
This can take lots of trial and error, but keep searching. That is the key. I thought that I really disliked yoga, but it was because I had not tried enough styles and teachers to find one that I liked. Its like dating, its not that I don’t like men, its just that I am not that interested in most of them. Keep trying new things and new tricks until you find the one that you can get into a groove with.
5 years ago, when I was having a life crisis, I took a huge stack of money and joined the best swankiest gym in DC (in the Ritz Carylton). It had all of the best classes and incredible facilities. I really enjoyed going in there. At the time, feeling rich & pampered for an hour a day was very motivating $150 a month was well worth it! There were lots of interesting dignitaries and luminaries there, and best of all, my best friend went there. The fabulousness of the place motivated me to actually get off the couch and go there! They had a few great dance teachers and I was hooked. 3 days a week my feet would take me there. The dance classes were so much fun and satisfying for me that it was no effort. I I would go extra days and was in incredible shape at the time. I liked weights and discovered that I really like weights and chatting!
Doing weights at an easy level brings incredible results. I feel sad when I see a new out of condition woman come in and there is a trainer making her do tons of squats and leg lifts! I am thinking that such a hard workout is not motivating for a newbie. For myself, I need to start easy.
When I suddenly got Multiple Chemical Sensitivity it was in the ‘group exercise’ room that I would start choking form everyone’s laundry detergent. I also developed some asthma, so jumping around in rooms with toxins was out of the question for me. I was so sad, but eventually found belly dance which is not as strenuous as African & Zumba, so I could usually tolerate the level of toxins doing that. MCS made me realize how much the perfumes and toxic chemicals start off gassing when a body heats up. Even though I would probably never again have my African dance body back, I was still getting the rewards from exercising. I love to dance and do it many times per week. Belly dance taught me so many things, like how tense different of my body parts were, like knees and shoulders. I learned that very woman looks beautiful belly dancing, no matter the body shape or age. I love to belly dance and have actually performed a few times!
Also, at some point I became a certified Zumba instructor & started giving classes online via Skype. I did it with a friend and also clients. I did this business so that I can stay fit. I discovered that having a set appointment is an great way to get fit. After a while it morphed into doing dance, streaming yoga and visualization of goals via Skype. Now, I mostly have clients who want to do yoga and visualization or some form of meditation. I make appointments and that gets me there and working out. You have a little chat with the person and workout, just like in a class. Except that you dont have to go anywhere or even brush the back of your hair!
I have joined a few gyms to do weights, but have never gotten properly motivated until this gym. I finally found one that is easy enough to get to and laid back enough I can go in looking a mess. My goal is to go 3 days per week for about 35 minutes. I dont make a hard goal, because it will just make me feel bad when I fail. That is why these weight loss and exercise programs on infomercials and ads make so much money. They promise huge benefits, fast; and you invest the money and never actually use the product. You are sold a dream, but nothing really practical for the individual YOU! Nobody can sell you on “find the style, level, place, teacher that motivates you”. There is nothing to buy, except for coaching.
Sometimes, it is a small thing that de-motivates you. It could be the people in the gym are too pretentious. I am at the YMCA now and the sincere friendliness of the staff if very motivating to me. I feel welcome and that makes a difference for me. Also, I like that there are no dignitaries there , so I don’t have to look put together to go workout. So we are always changing! Maybe you want lots of handsome men, maybe you feel better with all beginners. My last gym had this great Restorative Yoga class which would get me in there and I would do some weights after; but they discontinued the class and I never could get motivated to go those 3 blocks to that gym. Now, my trick is that I go do another errand with my workout clothes on and don’t let myself come home until I have done at least 20 minutes of weights. This small effort has really made an improvement in my body strength and tone.
I think that most people need to go easy and gently on themselves and ease into things. I am that way. Lots of people that start of really strong quit soon. Enjoying what you do it the key to sucess!
Perhaps you like to go outside. Walking in the woods is part of my program. When I go a while without finding the time, I get a friend to come and make a date. Keep thinking and keep trying new things. Some people actually are motivated by ‘boot camp’ or kick-boxing. We are all different. I found that I dislike hitting & kicking things, but for some, this this a great release.
I have done similar methods with meditation. I have found lots of different ways and motivating factors. I started with visualization of goals, like money, love, cars, sucess and as it worked, I found that very motivating. Then I branched out into many other forms of meditation now that I had this habit of concentration..
I can work with you. I do different yoga, dance and mediation forms. You can try my program and then find a friend to do it with you. I am an exercise/meditation coach to a number of people and I love it! I am very tuned into to people’s needs and gentle with the timid. Maybe you want to do Tai Chi, Gogo, Gillian or Ballet, I can work with you on that. I have so many dance and workout videos, but have never completed one by myself, ever. I get bored in 5 minutes. I dont know why having that person on the other end of the computer makes all the difference. I need that friend there to do it with me. Finding a friend that will commit to their own health is very difficult to find. People will put sending emails and every other thing as a priority. So, if you have to pay me for a while, it is well worth it. I can even make dates to lead you in hand weights (good done while chatting). I will tell you what I know and you can copy my program if you want.
I love my program, it has helped me stay fit, healed my body, my mind, gotten me sucess and love and completely changed every area of my life. It can range from 30 minutes to 1 hour or so. All levels! I am into Kundalini and other yogas and different kind of meditations from chraka cleaning, drum journeys, creative visualization of goals, confidence self hypnosis, feeling love energy, and more. As for dance I do belly dance, zumba (cardio dance to pop music), shamanic and power animal dance.
I am also available for consulting/coaching to help you find what works for you. I adapt to disabilities, frailties and fears! Now you have no excuse!
I do barter, but you must deliver first!
